His idea was that
games actually helps. He says books are isolating, they have a direct path and
putting the reader in a situation as a follower instead of a leader because
books story have certain path while video gamers could take on their direction.
He points out that the video gamers improved some skills opposed to non-gamers.
This connects to my idea of social media and procrastination. Social media can
be a way of combating procrastination. For example if a student has writers
block then they can ask their friends or “followers” on their Facebook or
twitter and ask for ideas. In a way social media can be used for prolonging
procrastination. It can also use as a good tool to combat it, and do whatever
work they have to do. Also I think social media helps because some students
accomplish more when they are multitasking. For example they write a paper for
twenty minutes then take a break and surfer the Internet for five minutes. Then
get back to the paper and repeat the process. Instead of swamping yourself for
an hour with no breaks. I’d say that is when the procrastination kicks in.
I agree with you and Johnson that video games can improve your skills, but I also believe that too much video games can affect your mentality.
